Temp Agencies and Employment

Happy Hump Day Friends!! Today is Wednesday WTF, my weekly rant about things that waste your money. Today’s topic is about employment, more specifically temp agencies. I am very passionate about employment. The reason for this is simple, money. I believe that money is the tool to be used to gain freedom. Employment is the tool to gain money. This is why I feel very passionate about where I work and what I do. Despite this, there are many that don’t feel the same as me. Some of those people are workers, others are employers. To me, the temp agency has become the Bain of the lower class’ existence. In this post, I will go over several reasons why they should not be let off the hook.

Although I am not a fan of temp agencies, I do understand their purpose. Companies look to them to “try out” workers. If that worker is quality they often get hired on as a full-time employee. Although that seems legit it does beg the question, why not just hire them, to begin with? The answer is cost. Businesses have figured out that it is cheaper to bring someone on from a temp agency rather than hiring them on full time. The cost to train a new employee negates the extra cost of using the temp agency. That really helps out their bottom line. What about your bottom line though?

The whole premise of the temp agency is slightly good for the worker but great for the employer. People get exposure to a job without the benefits of being fully employed. Your employment with the temp agency guarantees you nothing. Once the temp period is over the company can choose to bring you on or dump you. You then are left hanging for work. All the temp agency does is make it easier for employers to get rid of people for any reason, legitimate or not.

So where does that leave you, the worker? I will repeat myself from earlier in the post: “I am very passionate about employment.” I think the easiest way to hold someone down is to make them economically dependent. So what we have to do is flip the script. We have to take back our employment and take back our security. How do we do that? It isn’t going to be easy but it can be done.

Thanks for reading my post “Wednesday WTF.” Tune in tomorrow for Thursday Trim the Trash and I will give my suggestions on taking back your employment.
